Cooperation
We are delighted to announce that Gills AL Systems from Singapore and LR Shipdesign AG have entered into a partnership.
Together, we want to contribute to environmental protection through significant fuel savings achieved by our combined systems for “zero carbon shipping”.
LRSD-AFT OPT exceeds IMO-EEDI Phase 2 requirements 2025 for Crude Oil Tankers
LRSD-AFT OPT exceeds EEDI requirements for new tanker construction
In response to a direct customer inquiry regarding the construction of new crude oil tankers and LNG tankers, we are assisting the customer with calculating profitability using LRSD – AFT OPT.
The aim is to examine the impact of AFT OPT on compliance with EEDI requirements for tankers, current status 2025.
In cooperation with the classification society ABS, we performed a sample calculation for a 310k DWT crude oil tanker. A modern design from 2022 with an Asia/Pacific sailing profile and the IMO EEDI conditions for 2025 were assumed.
ABS has supported LRSD in customer projects over the last three years and, with staff on site, has familiarized itself with our technology and our results for bulk carriers and container ships during tank tests, confirming and verifying them.
AFT OPT consistently achieved a significant performance increase of more than 6% PD without ESD in the tank tests. This value was used as the basis for the calculation as a theoretical calculation parameter.
The improvements achieved by AFT OPT have been proven across the entire sailing profile.
The conditions for 2025 were assumed for the EEDI calculation, and it can be seen that with a 6% PD reduction in engine power through AFT OPT, EEDI Phase 2 was exceeded by 5.9% at a design speed of 15 knots.
Reducing the design speed to 14.5 kts would mean meeting the conditions of EEDI Phase 3 of 2030 for this design.
LRSD-AFT OPT, our economic contribution to the further decarbonization of shipping.
Economy becomes the driver of ecology!
Verification of the patented technology
Our know-how was verified within the scope of an joint industry project (JIP) and validated during tank tests in HSVA, Hamburg, in the course of 2022.
The test series was accompanied by the project participants ClassNK as classification society and the Liberian Ship Registry LISCR as flag state, among others, and the results were confirmed with a “Statement of Fact” (SoF) by ClassNK as well as an “Approval in Principle” (AiP) by LISCR.
